closet control:
Closets are one of the most cluttered spaces in many of the homes we work in. Since most closets are concealed behind doors or curtains, they often become home to many unused and unwanted goods. So how can we get our closets back into shape? Keep reading!
Start by implementing the Four-P rule:
- Pull everything out of the closet
- Purge anything that you don't need, want, use or love
- Prioritize the things that are left by how often you use them
- Put everything away and make sure each item has a home
off-season storage:
In many parts of the country, people need different clothes for different seasons. This can create quite a problem if you have a small closet or if you share closet space with someone else. If you have a large closet, simply move your off-season clothes to the opposite end or to the back. If you are not so lucky, you still have a couple options.
1. You can use a closet from another room in your home to store clothes that are not needed for that season.
2. You can purchase durable plastic containers with secure lids to store you clothing. Place your clean off-season clothing into the containers and store under your bed, in the basement or even the garage or attic. Avoid putting your clothing into cardboard boxes which absorb moisture and odors.
get hooked on hooks:
Hooks might possibly be one of the greatest space saving wonders for closet organization. You don't even have to have a walk-in closet to use them! Hooks are great for belts, ties, robes, towels, bags, purses, backpacks, hats, scarves, coats, jewelry and much more. You can find very inexpensive hooks at most hardware and even some grocery stores now days. You can also find more decorative ones to use as storage for your jewelry or something that will be out in the open. The possibilities are endless if you use a little imagination.
color coded closets?
The questions of whether to color code your wardrobe is probably the most often asked questions we hear when we are working with closets. To be honest, this option is completely dependent on how you pick out your clothing each day. If you decide what to wear based on a certain color pallet then yes, it would be very beneficial for you to organize your clothes by color. However, if you decide what to wear based on type of clothing (button up shirt, sweater, tank top, dress, skirt) then it would not make any sense to organize by color. Instead, you should organize your closet so all your sweaters are together, all your button up shirts are together, etc. You might also want to arrange your clothing by fabric type (cotton, wool, silk) or by weight (light, medium, heavy) it is all your preference. You might want to try a few different ways to see which way works best for you!
